W.H. Young
William Howard Young was born at
Clifford, Ontario, on June 8th, 1878, and educated at Clifford Public
School, Harriston High School, Mount Forest Model School, and the School
of Practical Science, University of Toronto, from which he graduated in
Mining Engineering in
1905.
He obtained his commission as a Dominion Land Surveyor in May, 1907, and
as an Alberta Land Surveyor in
1911.
He practiced his profession as an Alberta Land Surveyor in the City of
Lethbridge for several years, being associated with
Mr. J.F. Hamilton of that city.
In
1912
he was appointed district engineer and surveyor for the Province of
Alberta, being stationed first at Calgary, and later at Youngstown,
which position he continued to hold until the time of his death.
He was married to Miss Annie Davidson Allan, daughter of Sheriff and
Mrs. Allen, of Guelph, in 1908.
He died at Youngstown on October 23rd,
1920,
from typhoid fever, and his wife, who was ill at the same time, died
only three weeks later, a little son four years old surviving them.
