Bill Turner
Bill Turner was born in September
1924 at
Thompson, Alberta. He lived and went to school in Orion and
worked as a farm helper until age 19 when he enlisted in the
RCAF.
He took basic training at Toronto Manning
Pool, was posted to Hamilton and studied radio for six months at
Westdale Tech. He was then posted to Montreal No. 1 wireless for
six months final training. He spent his Air Force years on
temporary duty at several stations and received his discharge at
Moncton, New Brunswick where he was advised to go on to
university.
He finished Grade 12 at SAIT in Calgary and
was accepted into the University of Alberta Engineering Program
in the fall of
1946 graduating with the Class of
1950
Civils.
During university, he worked three summers
on the drilling rigs in Alberta. He worked from
1950
to 1953
for the City of Calgary Engineering Department during which time
he received his commission as an Alberta Land Surveyor. He
started with Midwest Surveys as an Alberta Land Surveyor in
1953
and retired from there in
1981.
He is a retired member of APEGGA and an
honorary life member of the Alberta Land Surveyors’ Association.
