W.H. (Bill) Jones

 

Bill Jones was born March 31, 1924, along with his twin sister Jenny, on the family farm, in Twp 30 Rge 9 W3M, near Ardath, Saskatchewan.  He was one of the ten children of Harry and Elvida Jones and attended the local school near Ardath Sask. He completed Grade 11, and at the age of 16.

 

Bill Jones left school to join the army to fight in World War II and had his 17th birthday will serving in Africa. He was wounded twice in Europe.

 

Upon leaving the army, Bill returned to farm in Saskatchewan and finished Grade 12. He then studied engineering at the University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon) and obtained his B.Sc in Civil Engineering 1951.

 

Bill Jones worked with Hamilton and Olson Surveys in Edmonton and received his Alberta Land Surveyor commission in 1952. He then proceeded to earn his commissions in Saskatchewan (1954), Dominion Lands (1954) and Manitoba (1956) and British Columbia (1964). He also went to work for Mannix PipeLine Co. in 1957 to 1958 to obtain his P.Eng designation.

 

Bill Jones ran the Regina office of Canadian Engineering and Surveys in Regina until 1960. He moved to Calgary in 1960, to partner with Doug Thompson P.Eng, to form All-Can Engineering and Surveys. He became sole owner and president in 1976 and restructured All-Can to have multiple partners.

 

Bill worked in the oil and gas industry and was involved in over 40,000 surveys in over 50 years.

 

In 1949, Bill Jones married Edna May Smith. They had six children (Gail, Bruce, Dan, Allan, Debbie and Glen). Bruce, Dan and Glen are partners in All-Can Engineering. Bruce and Dan are also Alberta Land Surveyors. Edna passed away in September 2005.

 

Bill Jones remained actively working and golfing until his death on February 28, 2006.
