1980 - Formal
Approval of the University Program
President
Norm
Mattson proudly announced that the most significant accomplishment in the past
year was the formal approval in July of
1979 of an undergraduate degree program
in Surveying Engineering at the University of Calgary. Many of the
recommendations at the 1980 Annual General Meeting dealt with the western
provinces common academic syllabus as a result of the establishment of the
university program. The membership also approved promoting the expanded survey
profession concept with the objective of drawing graduates of a university
degree program into the Association.
During
1978-1979, the number of new active members dropped off to ten
and Council continued to monitor the problem of technicians establishing survey
firms and/or purporting to offer professional services to the public.
In
addition, the Association’s first full-time Executive Assistant, Linda Yarham,
left the Association and was replaced by Emily Dumas.
