1973 - Legislative Changes

In 1973, the Association formed a special committee on the Land Surveyors Act. The special Committee prepared a brief to be presented to a provincial legislative committee reviewing regulations and licensing of professions and occupations. The Association also prepared a draft amendment, in cooperation with the Director of Surveys office, on amendments to the Surveys Act and Survey Control Regulations. Similarly, the Association prepared a brief to the Minister of Municipal Affairs on a proposed new Planning Act.

President Okamura thanked everyone who participated on committees but was concerned that a number of members did not feel like they had adequate opportunity to comment on changes to legislation and when there was such opportunity only a few members provided their opinions back to the Association.

As in
1971, the Association hosted a panel discussion on the education of the surveyor at the Annual General Meeting - the first and only one to be held in Lethbridge.
